Protect Your Right to Free and Fair Elections

Trump and MAGA Republicans think Virginians will sit back while they rig the midterm elections by manipulating congressional maps.  These changes will literally deny Virginian voters the power to influence decisions in Washington.

On April 21, Virginians will vote to approve a temporary constitutional amendment to redraw Virginia's congressional district maps.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is
Virginians for Fair Elections?

VFE is a grassroots organization working to pass a voter-approved amendment that allows Virginians - not politicians - to ensure fair, transparent congressional maps ahead of the 2026 elections.

Why is this amendment needed now?

With states like Texas, Ohio, North Carolina, and Florida actively manipulating congressional maps mid-decade at Donald Trump's demand, Virginians face the real risk of having their voices in Washington diminished if nothing is done.

Is this a permanent change to the redistricting process in Virginia?

No!  This is a temporary, emergency exception that ends after the 2030 census, when Virginia's bipartisan redistricting system automatically resumes.

How will our district change?

Under the proposal, Mathews County will be part of a very large district (approximately 630,000 voters) that extends from Alexandria and Arlington, along the Potomac, and to the Chesapeake Bay.

When will new maps take effect?

The proposal will be voted on April 21, in a special election.

If the referendum is approved, the new districts will take effect for the November 2026 mid-term elections.

These mid-decade maps will be in place for elections in 2026, 2028, and 2030.

Will the state-level district be changed?

The State District will not be impacted in this redistricting.  The Redistricting Amendment only affects Congressional Districts.

What happens if the final judgement of the Virginia Supreme Court does not uphold the new, mid-decade map, after Virginia voters have said YES?

The Virginia Supreme Court has allowed the referendum to proceed before it issues a final ruling on the entire case.  The court could rule that the General Assembly lawfully enacted the maps through proper procedure, upholding the votes cast by Virginia voters.

OR.... the court could hold that the constitutional amendment and the referendum were not properly adopted under Virginia law.  That decision would nullify the new map, reverting to the previous, 2020 maps.
